I don't have a dog but I do have an 18mth old boy. WOM is huge for new parents. If only we had commission on all the books we promoted.

Hi Tony,
Yes, I have used it in the past. I need to start again, I think it has had a lot of upgrades since I last used it. I have posted a few runs around Wellington... its great for motivating me to get going.

Hey all,
I am Sarah and will soon be launching a website for New Zealand pet owners to review and rate the services, products and parks/walks/beaches they use.
Found the SWOM blog initially and recently joined up here. Pet owners use WOM a lot to make purchasing decisions for their pets and I hope to help businesses who list with DogMog understand and embrace WOM, and show how it can help their businesses grow.

I have found SWOM to be a great resource, I have just started running again and have found the podcasts great for making the km's fly! Look forward to learning and sharing with you guys.

Hi Annabel (and Armand) - great to have you onboard. And love what you are doing with voeveo too by the way. All the best with it - I'll pass on the word!

Hello!

I'm Annabel and I run: www.voeveo.com It's kinda like the etsy of mobile content. Members can join as sellers, create a profile and upload original mobile content - while buyers can join, browse and get great stuff for their phones.

We're small but growing (yeah!) and because I don't have a huge marketing budget to compete against the giants WoM is incredibly important to my work.

Looking forward to some great discussions on the site :)

Hey Cymen, welcome to SWOM. Social networking is traditional word of mouth on steroids. The same principles apply though - people being people. Some are disingenuous, some are extroverted, but i find most are reasonable. The trick is being authentic, active and additional - always be adding something. Good luck with rankers!

Hi Tony and Marshall,
Myself and my business partner have recently started up a word of mouth travel website called www.rankers.co.nz.

Having run a sea kayaking business for 12 years or so years, I have a reasonable understanding of tourism and traditional word of mouth. However, shock horror this is the first social networking site I have joined. Yes a Social Network Virgin. This all feels a bit wierd.

I am certainly learning alot with this new venture and finding the power of WOM within new technologies to be a real eye opener. Both fascinating and daunting at the same time. Also providing amazing opportunities (even if I aren't 100% sure what they are right now).

Hi Marshall - Awesome to have anothe member! sorry I didn't see your comment here for a week!

SWOM is a specialised community of interest rather than a general social networking platform (like FB). SWOMIES tend to be people in sales and marketing or web strategy intrigued with the increasing power of word of mouth - fuelled by web 2.0.

The way to get value from it for your enterprise is in advice, tips etc rather than as a network for leads. Its too niche and not why people are here.
