Book winners and new SWOM guidelines

Last week, 175 new SWOMies joined SWOM, bumping up our community population to 582! New study on citizen created content for New Zealand and Australia.

Nielsen Online has released a new Consumer Generated Media Report (PDF) that details the uptake of CGM among Internet users in Australia and New Zealand, the drivers and barriers to uptake, forecast growth, and opportunities associated with this emerging trend in online behaviour. The numbers seem really high to me. What do you think?

Online community and fandom

Nancy Baym, an Associate Professor in Communication Studies at the University of Kansas, posts here slides from a recent talk she did on online community and fandom. She mostly focuses on fans of bands and musicians, but much of her work can be applied to businesses who are looking to build customer evangelists using online communities and Web 2.0.
